What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Hi Quilty Friends! I’m popping in with a short and sweet update. As you can see below, I’ve officially finished the Cake Stand blocks I was working on last week. 

 Last week's goal was to finish 34 Cake Stand quilt blocks by Monday, two days ago.  I'm two days late posting and still have not finished them.  I knew when setting the goal that it was going to be a tough one to accomplish but challenges are fun, right?  I also had a veggie garden to weed, harvest and preserve.  Along with the normal summer chores, housework, errands and Mr. Podunk was having an out patient surgery on his foot.  We'll talk more about his foot later.  To prepare for his surgery I needed something to do ...

 In the last few weeks there's been a lot of digging through scrap fabrics out here in Podunk.  All that digging stirred up the need to sew up something...... and it's all cut and ready to go!  Remember these tiny Cake Stand blocks?  

 This week was a slow one for quilting, but I still made it into the sewing room every day, even if only for a few minutes. While sorting through the tiny scraps bin, I realized there were even more scraps tucked away in the “Sweets” tin, where I keep random triangles to turn into half square triangles. As you can see, they multiply like rabbits....it’s time to let them go!

There were three HST's in the tin, so they’ll be added to the hoard of HST's.

Hello Quilty Friends! Just a quick update on my quilting progress since our last chat. A little over half of the Starbound quilt is finished, and since it’s entirely ruler work, it’s taking a bit more time. I’m hoping to have it off the frame by Thursday evening. Starting a fabric scrap saver system takes some thought, and it should fit your quilting style. What’s my style? I’m not really sure. I just know I love fabric and quilts. I do know I’m drawn to bright fabrics...think of a box of crayons without the black and brown. And with fabric prices always climbing, I like to hang on to every bit, because sometimes those tiny scraps turn out to be surprisingly useful.

Back in May, I decided to start a scrap saver system...again. The picture below was taken on May 3rd. I’ve tried this before but quickly became overwhelmed because I have so many scraps. This time, my plan is to cut only the scraps produced from current projects, with the exception of blue jeans and flannel shirts. My husband’s holey old flannel shirt has been waiting nearly a year to be taken apart, and I finally tackled it this weekend.

 Well I've pulled out and dusted off the die cutter and decided to jump on board the scrap saver system.  What's the point of having all those scraps if you don't use them.  And what's the point of having a die cutter if you don't use it.  So lets do this!  Woohoo!  I'm super excited to get this journey started.  I'll be using the Bonnie Hunter scrap system.   As we all know she is the Scrap Queen.  So we might as well follower her lead.
